IR communication is very common wireless communication technology.IR communication is easy to use. IR Communication generally comprises of IR transmitter and IR receiver. The most common use if IR communication is remote controls of different appliances like RC toys, Music systems,TV remote control, and some embedded projects consists of IR Modules where they can be used as a proximity sensor, distance measurements, and security alarm, etc.

in this project, we have demonstrated the functioning of a simple IR Module using NE555 Timer IC and some electronic components.

the aim of this project is to make a different type of IR sensor that can work both inside and outside of the home with the help of 555 timers IC. in this project we have used TSOP1738 IR receiver to receive infrared signal with some frequency and a simple IR LED to transmit the IR signals,

Components Required

1. NE555 Timer IC wit base.
2. IR LED.
3. IR receiver  TSOP1738  /  SM3388
4. Zero PCB
5. 620 ohm Resistor
6. 690 ohm Resistor.
7. 220 ohm Resistor.
8. 330 ohm Resistor.
9. 10 K ohm Resistor.
10. LED.
11. 223k ceramic capacitor
12. 104 ceramic capacitor.
13. 10 if / 25v capacitor.
14. 1K preset.
15. 1N4148 Diode.

  TSOP 1738

TSOP1738 is an IR Receiver for IR remote controls. it consists of a photodetector, gain control, bandpass filter, demodulator and preamplifier in a single package. TSOP17XX series of IR Receivers are very common for all types of transmission codes supporting different modulating techniques like RC6, RC5, NEC, Sony, Etc.

TSOP1738, in particular, supports a carrier frequency of 38Khz and the output of this IR Receiver can be directly connected to a microcontroller or a microprocessor. TSOP 1738 has three pins namely GND, Vs and Output. 




Some of the other characteristics of TSOP1738 are high immunity to ambient light, active low output, low power consumption, continuous data transmission, and compatibility with TTL as well as CMOS.

IR LED

IR LED is a special type of LED that emits infrared rays of the Electromagnetic Spectrum. the wavelength of infrared Rays is greater than of visible light and hence they are invisible to human eye.

Circuit Design


The design of the IR module circuit is explained here .here we need to modulate the IR light emitted by the IR LED.since the IR receiver used in this project is TSOP1738, so we need to modulate the IR Signals at nearly 38KHz.for this, we have used a simple NE555 Timer IC in stable Multivibrator mode. in this mode, the 555IC will work as a free-running oscillator and generate an approximate 38 kHz square wave. the output of the 555 timer IC is connected to an IR LED.
The IR receivers output is low i.e. normally the output stays high and when it detects the IR light, the output goes to low. Here we can use a PNP Transistor to control the load.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT About This project is about the simple hack of voltmeter by Arduino. The main reason behind making this is from my personal experience, when I was performing one experiment in the lab, I could not find a voltmeter so I made this hack to fulfill my requirement and also I think it will help others too. Good project for beginners which uses basic concepts, yet a power full tool. While running the code, you can find the output on the serial monitor. Calculating Voltage Formula for calculating voltage: Vout = (Val * 5.0 ) / 1024.00 ; Here in these formula Val is the value that is read by Arduino as analog input, which is further multiplied by the voltage that is been supplied by Arduino and thus to get the Vout it is divided by the cycle of time that is covered after every bit to get the value.
